Sea Otter WebQuest

 

PROCESS


To accomplish your task, you will follow the following steps:

Step 1: First, you will be assigned to a team of 3 students.

Step 2: Among team members, you will choose one of the three roles to play. (One role per individual in the group)

This expert will gather information on:
*The reproduction of sea otters.
*Sea otters rehabilitation and release back to the wild.
This expert will gather information on:
*The habitat in which sea otters live.
*Threats to the future of the sea otters.
This expert will gather information on:
*Food and feeding of sea otters.
*Otter behavior and lifestyle.


Now that you have chosen your role, click on the title role to see the FAQ-Frequent Asked Questions- visitors to the aquarium have. Along with these questions, you will find a resources page with Internet sites and books where you can find the information to answer these questions.

Step 3: You will study the Internet sites provided and:

a) Use NoteStar, a software program, to assist you in taking notes from online sources as you browse the internet;
b) Use the Free Online Translator to help with your project.
c) E-mail your teacher the results of your research so she can check on your group’s progress and provide feedback;
d) Save your notes to your floppy disk.

Step 4: Synthesis and Evaluation

With a printed copy of the notes you took using NoteStar, you will meet with your group and revised your project.

Print a copy of the graphic organizer for the items to be covered in your brochure.

Think about these questions:

a) Am I following the rubric?
b) Have I found sufficient details to put my part of the brochure together?
c) Can I throw away material that is not useful or does not answer my questions?
d) Do I need to rearrange the information into different categories?
e) Can I condense or combine the information?
f) Do I need to research more to adequately cover my topic?
g) Is my translation into Spanish good? Does it make sense?

Step 5: Putting it Together

Now you are ready to start putting your part of the brochure together.

For Mac users, go to File >Click on Project Gallery
Under Category click> Business Forms >then choose> Brochures.

For PC users, click on the software MS Publisher. It is part of your Microsoft Office package. Choose brochures.

Step 6: Putting the Brochure Together

Get together with your group members, and put all parts of your brochure together. It should have an appealing cover.
Check on the rubrics for the brochure.

Step 8: Oral Presentation

Rehearse your oral presentation among your group.
Check on the oral presentation rubric.
Present your brochure.
